Afternoon in Sunny Manhattan

Day 32 Continued: After Chad and I experienced bagels (woot woot!!), we walked to many of our destinations in Lower Manhattan and stubbled across a few.

Lower Manhattan Sights Seen
- Russel & Daughters Bagel Shop
- Chinatown
- Trinity Church - We saw Alexander Hamilton’s grave by chance and remembered the story from Philly’s interaction with Sheldon in the National Constitution Center.
- 9/11 Memorial
- Wall Street & New York Stock Exchange
- Battery Park & Castle Clinton National Monument – Battery Park was created because the landfill extended all the way around the original castle, so they flattened it and turned it into a park.
- Statue of Liberty – Crown tours were not offered for the day, it was foggy and didn’t seem like the time to go for a ferry ride. Maybe next time! But, we were still able to see the statue!
- Dunkin’ Donuts – snagged a T-Mobile Tuesdays deal and used the free mocha coupon to stay hydrated!

Subway Adventures
To make our way north to the Chrysler Building, we hopped on a subway train and noticed the train was not going in the direction we wanted. A few ladies next to us overheard and they said we were on the wrong train. Oops. They told us to get off at the next stop, specific directions to get on the platform and wished us luck. Thank you!!!
Now situated on the correct train heading north, we were entertained with loud rap music blaring from a passenger. Some older ladies were appalled and said to turn it down. He then started yelling about racism and everyone on the car found other things to do to avoid any confrontation in the enclosed space. The guy soon left and the man sitting next to us said that there is always some form of entertainment on the trains, whether wanted or not!
Middle of Manhattan Sights Seen
- Grand Central Station
- Chrysler Building
- Times Square
- Radio City Music Hall
- Rockefeller Center – Jimmy Fallon and the Tonight’s Show!
- Trump Tower
- South end of Central Park
- Columbus Circle
- Luigi’s Gourmet Pizza – First New York slice of pizza for Katie, repeat offender Chad had 4 slices. (1 cheese, 2 ricotta mozzarella, 1 veggie, 1 meat lovers)
- Dyson Vacuum Display Store
- Empire State Building
- Koreatown
- Liberty State Park

Central Park Katie quote - “I just got sniffed by a New York Cat!!” as a large, tame racoon wandered by the back of my legs while sitting at a park bench. NO RABIES, PLEASE!!

End of the Day Chad quote – “Would it be ok if we don’t get a Subway sandwich [to eat on the subway train]?” as we are drained from the day’s adventures and riding our last track to the parking garage. For sure, I’m pooped!

Overall, the day was full of A LOT of walking, new sights, VERY tall buildings and a new perspective of living in a large city. Chad and I had a great day-trip to Manhattan and wouldn’t mind going back for a visit.

Night Night!
We drove out of New Jersey, back through New York and over a massive bridge that costs $15 to cross. Say what??? We almost didn’t have enough cash and would have had a toll violation…dun, dun, dunnnnn. Ugh, didn’t see that coming.
Chad and I stopped at McDonald’s to use their WiFi to post the previous day’s adventures with faster uploading speeds! After the update, we drove for 3.5 hours through Connecticut and into Rhode Island to end our day at Cracker Barrel of Coventry, RI. Tomorrow, we are invited to a tea party in Boston 😊
